Cross My Heart (plus a giveaway) Closed

by Fiddledeedee on October 16, 2012

We have been fortunate enough to have our health insurance covered through my husband’s membership in the Screen Actors Guild throughout most of our marriage. That includes, if you’re counting, 3 births, yearly wellness exams, ongoing treatment for Lyme Disease, and numerous trips to our local Urgent Care Center because that’s what you do when you have 3 children.

Since our coverage is through a Blue Company, we’re able to take advantage of a program offered for members, called Blue365. A national program offered by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association to members of participating Blue Cross and/or Blue Shield Companies, Blue365 incorporates a “Groupon-like” feel by offering products and services which are discounted and help to promote “healthy lifestyle choices.”

As I was perusing the site, I learned that a few of the deals are listed under categories such a Fitness, Healthy Eating, Living, Personal Care, and Wellness. In other words, the program is concentrated on helping members stay healthy by making good choices every day and aiding them in incorporating fun and healthy activities into their lives. They are also keeping in mind the idea that families are always searching for ways to stay fit, enjoy good nutrition, and even travel, all while staying within a budget, hence the discounts offered. I know I love a good deal.

One of the affiliated stores offering an online discount that caught my eye was Reebok.com. Reebok is offering members a 20% discount plus free shipping. I’ve always been a fan of Reebok shoes and recently I became enamored with their active wear. So much so that I’ve ordered this:

(Just for the sake of full disclosure, these are not my shapely legs.)

These are the Shapewear Action Capri, and what sets them apart from my usual stretchy pants fare that I grace our gym in is that they have Shape n’ Hug panels that will help to smooth and shape key trouble areas. My grand hope is that I can discontinue wearing large oversized t-shirts over my workout pants in an effort to disguise my, well, imperfections. My ulterior motive for purchasing these may have a good deal to do with the hope that if I feel more confident in my workout gear, I’ll actually go and, you know, WORK OUT MORE OFTEN.

To sign up for Blue365 and learn more about the deals they are offering, go here. If your Blue Company isn’t yet participating in the Blue365 Program, you can still sign up and be alerted when your Blue Company joins.

I signed up for 2 5k’s these will also be my FIRST races!! One is on thanksgiving morning and the other the week of Chriatmas! This way I have 2 goals and out of fear of embarrassment I will stay on track with my eating and training throughout the season!!!

I am striving to hit the treadmill at least 4 times a week, and get an hour on it each time. This takes be a distance of 3 1/2 to 4 miles.
I also hope to keep eating sensibly, even when the holiday parties start arriving!
Thanks for the great giveaway!
BTW, I feel the same way about nice looking workout cloths…you just feel better about yourself!

I have been slowly changing my diet since April of this year. Now that I have shed a few pounds I’m ready to amp it up with some “fun” exercise. I don’t think those two words go together.

4 momma of 3 monkeys October 16, 2012 at 9:24 am

Exercise 5x week and eat ‘clean’ during the week saving ‘cheat foods’ for the weekend =)

5 bamacurl October 16, 2012 at 9:38 am

Over the past 14 months I have lost 40 pounds and there’s no way I’m finding it again! I will continue making healthy food choices for myself and my family, and God bless my C25Kgroup! I went through 2 rounds before moving into the intermediate group, but I am now running 8-10 miles a week. and I desparately need new workout clothes! Thanks for the laughs and the give-a-way!

6 Jill October 16, 2012 at 11:30 am

Hit the treadmill 3x per week and continue my low-sugar diet!

7 Krissy October 16, 2012 at 12:51 pm

My husband and I have cut down on the processed foods snack in our home. Instead I always have lots of fruit on the counter and I love whipping up smoothies for the kids.

We have all started walking to the park down the street and back in the evenings (stopping to chit chat with neighbors along the way).

Last, but not least, we got a doggie! He’s a pug so we can’t walk him much during the day so we walk Bartok Von Bacon (yes, that’s his name) in the evenings to the park. He is keeping us more active! He has two speeds: on and off.

8 Wehaf October 16, 2012 at 2:00 pm

I’ve taken up tabata exercise and I do it three times a week!

9 Jessica October 16, 2012 at 2:56 pm

Instead of waiting until January when I wanted to, I joined Weight Watchers early — hopefully it will keep me from gaining and LOSE during the holiday months.

10 Karen Taylor October 16, 2012 at 7:48 pm

I am trying to cut down on sugar intake and also trying to get more exercise.

11 Karen Taylor October 16, 2012 at 7:53 pm

12 Katherine M October 17, 2012 at 12:13 am

I am going to work out 5 times a week at the local Y. Maybe a little longer and more intense during the holiday sweet treat bonanza time.

13 Beth October 17, 2012 at 9:09 am

Not eat. Ok, seriously though, we have been eliminating ALL sugar from our diet, and it is amazing how much weight one can lose doing that (and how much sugar is in EVERYTHING). We substitute honey in all our cooking/baking now. We are doing the SCD (selective carbohydrate diet) diet in an effort to heal my son, who has been struggling with intestinal issues his whole life. It is actually working, but our Thanksgiving and Christmas meals will look a lot different this year. It is very difficult at times, as the diet is very restrictive, but the benefits are awesome. Until is snows, I try to get out and walk at least 3 times a week. We’re hoping for lots of snow this winter so we can do lots of cross country skiing to keep us fit as a family.

14 Robin M. October 17, 2012 at 5:05 pm

I am trying to get outside and walk as much as I can… also get enough sleep and eat right.

15 Lisa October 17, 2012 at 6:01 pm

Thanks for the info. We have Blue insurance as well and I had NO IDEA there were DEALS to be had! Sweet! My health plan include staying on a low-carb, high-fiber diet, which is suprisingly easy when one is unable to eat anything having gluten. I’ve also switched from sugar to all things stevia sweetened. I put a bug in my husband’s eat that I’d love an elliptical machine since running is no longer and option for me. Here’s hoping we can find one on Craigslist for cheap!

16 Cynthia P. October 17, 2012 at 8:31 pm

I’m recommitting myself to a nightly regimen of push-ups…also may start jogging round the playground while I watch my little ones.

17 Lisa Brown October 18, 2012 at 4:47 pm

I am planning to stay healthy this fall and holiday season by eating right, getting enough sleep, and not letting the stress of it all, get to me.

I plan to increase my fresh fruit and veggie intake and start zumba classes, my email is tracietrump@yahoo.com

20 Debbie October 20, 2012 at 6:54 am

I’m eating less, eating home-cooked meals more often and walking more. On the other hand due to circumstances beyond my control, my stress level has increased exponentially, which, depending on its severity, can lead to either eating less or eating more. I’m just hoping the weight ends up in the loss column at the end of the game.

21 susitravl October 20, 2012 at 5:22 pm

Taking better care of myself – vitamins, exercise and walking away from fattening foods.

We’re trying to stay away from simple carbs and sugars. Ack, it’s hard!

38 Nicole October 27, 2012 at 4:41 pm

When the weather starts getting cold around here, I like to do exercise DVDs in my home. Some of my favorites are Jillian Michaels’ 30-day Shred, the 10-Minute Trainer, and Turbo Jam. We also make a lot of healthy crockpot meals and try to avoid eating fast food. I also use a small plate at holiday parties, so I am less likely to overeat!

Eating healthy. Watching the sweets. Walking. Taking vitamins. I already got a flu shot as I am near my young nieces and nephews a lot and I tend to older parents. I am trying to get enough sleep. I am trying to stay hydrated with water. I use a stepper when watching tv. I also make sure that I have time with my husband and friends. I also have a signed up for yoga and I do acupuncture once a week.

43 Deb Anderson October 30, 2012 at 10:21 am

One thing I’ll do is use a humidifier more often when winter hits. Dry heated air is so bad for my sinuses.

44 Tomi October 30, 2012 at 8:29 pm

Our dog helps keep up healthy on these cool Autumn evenings by insisting on a family walk every night after dinner. It’s a great to get everyone up and moving!

Hand sanitizer. By the gallon jug. Also flu shots and while I’m not a huge fan of extra shots the idea of being stuck at home with the Flu and taking care of sick teenagers/hubby, while pretending that mom never gets sick, is enough to scare me straight into the shot line.

57 Ksess November 1, 2012 at 3:41 pm

I’m planning on less desserts and more vegetable plans to be healthier through the holidays. And getting up and playing/walking with the kids after we eat.

77 Angie November 11, 2012 at 7:54 am

I’ve spent the last four months working diligently at modifying my eating habits. My hope is that I can not only make this a lifestyle change, but one that positively affects my family too. I am working to make better lifestyle choices, not just lose weight. My goal is to make over-indulgences a limited thing during the holidays and to make smart eating choices.
