Not only was this my first blog title, but it is now my homeschooling mantra. Which, by the way, has now evolved from “I only have to be one day smarter than they are” to, well, the above.
This is the time of year when a homeschooling mother’s thoughts turn to boarding school, or private school, or any school, really, that is far far away from home.
Or maybe it’s just me.
Our statewide homeschool convention is scheduled for the end of May and I already have my reservation. I may or may not have already begun packing.
I received a phone call from my homeschooling convention roommate/sister-in-law mid-day. We can always count on one another to give proper perspective. She asked me how my day was going, and I told her a tale of an altercation between the 12 year old sister and the 6 year old baby brother wherein the sister ended up with scratches all up and down her arm.
A time-out was involved. Mostly for me.
She in turn told me that she was also involved in instituting a time out in her own household when she spotted one son chasing his brother down the street with a hammer.
“You totally win.”
94 days until the convention.
But who’s counting.

Today my almost eight year old bit his four year old sister. I about freaked out. I’m thinking military school. In the frozen tundra. I don’t have current plans to attend our home school convention but I am having surgery next week and am looking forward to the small one-night break I’ll have. I think I’ll actually be able to sleep all night long. Thanks for the daily laugh and reminder that I’m not alone!
One day, all too soon, you will be able to wear the BTDT (been there; done that) T-shirt.
Course, you may still have two others at home and be in the midst of “being there and doing that”, but there is that idea that if you can do it once, you can do it again.
Kinda like giving birth. . .
And like giving birth, each child and their daily traumas they inflict upon us is oh-so-very-different!
DeeDee,
Thanks for the blog. I know the feeling all too well. I, too, look forward to the convention in part to get away from the joys of motherhood and be encouraged to press on.
This too shall pass and if you have your sanity still in tack then you can shout “I WON”. Hay even if your sanity is not in tack shout “I WON” you’ve earned it.
A hammer? Sounds like something my kids used to do. At 13 and 17 they have found much more subtle and not so subtle ways to get at each other. Beware the teenage years, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet! Hope to see you at the convention again this year!
Why does reading things like this make me smile? Oh yes, b/c it reminds me that I am not alone in the insanity. Misery truly loves company…if its good company like you and Trish!
Our homeschool convention isn’t until the end of July…because July has such FABULOUS weather here in Phoenix…ugh.
I made an executive decision at the end of January and if the children were going to survive, we needed a break from schooling. The thought was that it was going to be a week long break. Well, it has turned into a month long break…and my sanity isn’t back yet. I think we are all in trouble! LOL
bahahaha….this cracks me up! Thanks for the morning laugh…thanks for sharing and making me feel better that it’s not just my kids that make me want to pull out hair! Mine or anyone else’s!! This morning on our drive to school I jokingly said..”I’m going crazy” and my middle child replied “Mom, you have arrived.”
I’m counting down the days until our convention, which is aptly scheduled over Mother’s Day weekend. Reservations are made!!!!!!
Thanks DeeDee for this lil bit. I know I am not alone but I so needed to be reminded of it. I thought it was just me actually considering public school. This too shall pass. LOL Have a blessed week!
