That neti-pot thing - I have no idea what it is and am too lay to look it up, but - it sounds like something Barney Frank might not recognize if it was in his house. Or like something I may or may not have seen or used in college. Ahem.

About the only things I could live with on that list are the two I already do. Washing hands (frequently) and sleeping (although not frequently enough.) As for the neti pot...I use the easier version (a squeezy bottle thing), and if you have chronic sinus problems and are avoiding having surgery like I am, it's a God-send!!
Feel better soon!

Oh I forgot to add... eating lots of sugary foods when sick is like posting a large sign that says,

"Bacteria and viruses are welcomed here. Please come and stay for a long time. I like coughing until my ribs are bruised and until I'm going to Costco for Depends."

I'm sorry... that last part wasn't necessary... true, but unnecessary. I don't know what has gotten into me tonight.

Okay, going now...

This is so not how I would normally introduce myself (seeing how this is my first time to your blog)... at least let me wave at you first {{{HI}}}

Okay, I just have to comment on the sugar thing. I didn't get it for a loooooonnnnngggg time. It wasn't until someone spoke slowly with short words... the deal with sugar and being sick is simple.

Colds and flus are caused by bacteria and/or viruses... both of which are LIVING organisms.

Sugar is simply energy. If you were growing a virus or bacteria in a petri dish you would squirt sugar water into it to keep it alive.

Avoiding sugar when you are sick starves the bacteria and/or viruses so they can't survive.

It's simple and it works.

Just sayin'...

Could you imagine trying to give your kids that "cold and flu fighter" stuff with all the garlic and jalepenos?!

Fear not the Neti Pot!! I LOVE my neti pot. Like, really love it in a kind of weird and unnatural way.

My theory is that there is an evil conspiracy against sugar because almost any "health" email says to avoid it. I think it was started by someone who wants to see the sugar industry fail. I do not want to see it fail. Therefore, I will continue to do my part and consume sugar.

I'm with Momfever.....get the flu and get it over with. I wanna know how she gets her kids to take that concoction every day.. and I'm sorry - it's not possible to put 1 to 2 cloves of garlic in your mouth without tasting or smelling it.

Hope you're all better soon!!

I pray you'll get well soon!

In order to follow the "get your sleep" advice, please skip slaving over homemade brews. Instead, drink as much ginger ale (mixed with OJ to get your Vitamin C) and eat as much ice cream as necessary to stay hydrated and full :-)

I have to say IMHO hand washing and not touching eyes, mouth and nose are the best things on this list. In a cynical moment I wonder if the other stuff "works" because you smell so bad nobody gets close enough to spread anything to you. I'm firmly in the "pass another poptart" camp. Live without sugar? Sure it's possible but WHY IN HEAVEN WOULD YOU WANT TO????
