Quick & Easy Marinades – Saturday Stirrings

The best compliment I’ve ever received in the kitchen, besides “Mommy, you have a nice behind,” (from my 4 year old son as he walked by and patted it while I was doing dishes) was, “MOM, this tastes just like Carrabbas!

I smiled, wiped the imaginary sweat from my brow, “Thank you.”

I let them think I’d been slaving in the kitchen all day.  To make a meal that could fool the Carrabbas connoisseurs that I live with requires a good deal of deception.

But I’m going to let you in on my secret.

I found two different kinds of prepackaged marinades that have saved me countless of calls for take-away service at Carrabbas.

(Which btw is #2 on speed dial.  #1 being Poison Control.)

I found these marinades on the shelf next to the dry packaged mixes.  Both brands contain NO MSG and are easy to mix. And they cost less than a buck.  Way less if I have a coupon.

Marinade

You simply add, for example, 1/4 Cup Water, 1/4 Cup Oil (I use Canola) and perhaps 2 Tablespoons of Balsamic Vinegar.

This varies slightly with each flavor mix.  I use both Weber and McCormick’s Grill Mates.  I only need to marinade the meat, chicken, or fish for 15 minutes (minimum), then grill and serve.

And stand back while the family stampedes the kitchen table.

This is super fast and easy if you’re short on time.

I’m getting back into the saddle as far as Saturday Stirrings becoming a regular event.  I’m considering opening it back up as a carnival to include not just recipes, but all kinds of kitchen tips as well.
