Blogger Reflection Award
June 21st, 2007 by Fiddledeedee
My friend, Heather at Sprittibee, just honored my blog with a “Blogger Reflection Award.” I must admit that when I opened the e-mail Heather sent me telling me about this award, I wasn’t wearing my glasses and at first glance I thought I was being awarded a “Booger Flicking Award,” which I think more appropriate.
But anyhoo.
Let me just say, I adore Heather. She is one of the most organized homeschoolers that I’ve ever come across. And her site is a wealth of homeschool information. And she’s as sweet as honey.
Now, as a recipient, I am to chose five bloggers (and I will quote from here, because I am not nearly as succinct) “who have been an encouragement, a source of love, impacted you in some way, and have been a Godly example to you. Five Bloggers who when you reflect on them you get a sense of pride and joy… of knowing them and being blessed by them.”
“This award is for the best-of-the-best so consider who you pick, carefully. This award should not be given to just anyone. If you’re going to do the award don’t just write a few words and slap it on your blog. Write real thoughts about these bloggers and what they’ve meant to you. If the bloggers you pick have already been given the award, don’t be afraid to give it to them again. They deserve it as many times as it’s given.”
Ya’ll know how I am whenever I’m tagged for a meme. I just can’t bring myself to “tag” anyone else, because I don’t want anyone to feel left out. I was the same way in grade school. I always made a lousy team captain. “I want them ALL on my team.” As if I were ever chosen team captain. Just an analogy.
This is a little different, though. In this last year, I have connected with a few bloggers, who inspire me, and are a constant source of encouragement. They have become “cyber” friends. And I would like to honor them.
1. Laurel Wreath: L.W. and I have not actually met, but we have talked via phone. The first time I heard her voice, it felt like I had known her for a long time. She is easy going, a GREAT listener, and such a support for me. She’s not afraid to be vulnerable. On her blog, and as a friend. I call her my “cerebrally spiritual” friend. And she is easily embarrassed. Never ask her where the tampons are located in the grocery store. Just a friendly suggestion. And I’m certain that if I should ever call L.W. and tell her that I’ve gotten my head stuck in the car door, and there is no one to help me, she would make the 2 1/2 hour journey to save me. (Don’t worry L.W., I have Triple A). I’m just sayin’.
2. Jules at Everyday Mommy: If I could pull up a chair in her retro kitchen every morning, and chat over a pot of coffee, I’d do it in a heartbeat. This girl doesn’t pull any punches. She tells it like it is. I find that so refreshing. She’s the kind of friend that would gently pull you aside, and let you know that your skirt is tucked up into your pantyhose. And then create a spectacular diversion so that you could right yourself. Her posts range from the spiritually challenging to I’m going to pee on myself if I keep reading.
3. Big Mama: I want to take a road trip with Big Mama. And I don’t care where. But we’d need to plan it carefully, avoiding “that time.” As we seem to cycle together. And I’m not talking about a bike. And we both are similar in how we deal with hormonal chaos. It wouldn’t be pretty. Big Mama is knee slapping funny. She can dig deep and find the humor in any situation. And boy do I appreciate that! And she is a wonderful writer. And a Godly girl. Oh, AND she’s a Texas gal. She’s very high on my cool meter. Even if she does watch “The Bachelor.” I don’t hold that against her.
4. Antique Mommy: A.M. and I really should live on the same street. We’re the same age, and both gave birth when we were 96. And we have similar hair woes. I would like to hang with her and just hope that a little bit of her writing talent flakes off of her and onto me. But I don’t want to sit too close, as I hear she wears Dr. Pepper as a fragrance. There’s a lot of things about A.M. that I love. She is the creme of the crop as far as writers go. I can’t emphasize that enough. But, she is also a woman of faith who alternately has me laughing and crying when reading one of her really profound posts. I want to be her when I grow up.
5. Amy from Laughing Through The Tears: I correspond with Amy frequently. I don’t know that I’ve ever met someone who makes the phrase “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade,” more real. And she throws a great party doing it. She is very transparent about her struggles, yet holds onto her faith with ferocity. And I imagine that she has a very hearty laugh. She’s a breath of fresh air. And she is not ashamed to admit that she “hearts” Donny Osmond. Because of her, I’ve come out of the closet as well. I “HEART” DONNY OSMOND. So there. Amy, you are a sweetheart. And I’m glad you’re my friend.
There are many other bloggers that inspire me to be a better person on a daily basis. But rules are rules. I had to pick 5. The rules for this award can be found here, and I understand that you can feel free to bestow this honor on bloggers that you want to honor.

Boy you have me pegged, embarrassed but would be there in a heartbeat (you got it!!).
You have picked a girl up while she was feeling low, and to say thank you does not seem to fit, so like the commerical says (and I will say it here).
I LOVE YOU MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One day we will tackle that 2 1/2 hour distance =)

Oh DeeDee, thank you. You know you mean the world to me. I love you ever so much! You’ve been such a thoughtful friend and you give such great encouragment to me when I need it. I still think we are one in the same at times!
And how did you ever guess I have a hearty laugh? My pastor always said he knew when I was listening during a sermon because he could pick out my laugh. I know we could get together and have a few giggles. Plus I would have to bring my Donny Osmond scrapbook and cds and we could sit and listen and pretend we are twelve again! Sigh.
Thank you for this encouragement today. You know I needed a pick me up. I am blessed to have met you and call you friend.
I love ya lots, Amy

I, too, read Big Mama, Everyday Mommy and Antique Mommy. I think you’re spot-on with your award bestowment (is that a word?).
And I have so enjoyed reading your blog, too. Reading your tales of mommy-ing three children so reminds me of my own life and helps me to laugh at the things that happen in my own house!

Thanks D2! I’m honored and humbled by your sweet words. Although I think I’m probably a more likely recipieint of the Booger Flicking Award as I’ve had many a booger flicked at me lately.
And if you can figure out a way to get rid of my nutty neighbor (choice of two) I’d love to have you next door.

I’m right there with you with Anitique Mommy and Big Mama. Both of them have the skill to make everyday life seem fun and exciting. Good writing goes a long, long way.
