And It’s A Handy Can Opener, Too

by Fiddledeedee on April 4, 2007

After a long hard day of dealing with children attempting to drive us to the brink of insanity, Fiddledaddy and I like to drink until we can’t see straight curl up in bed and catch up on our deep reading. I’m usually pouring over the artfully stylish renderings of the latest “Home Companion” magazine, while Fiddledaddy is perusing his copy of Mac World. As I’m flipping my pages, trying to actually read the articles, I hear him oohhhing and aaahhhing over his reading material. I furrow my brow, what in the name of all that is good and noble can be so exciting about the interior of Mac World? I look over to see what has him salivating. He’s reading a “Brigade QM” catalogue. “Since when did you become interested in weaponry?” I query. Excitedly, he shows me pictures of all manner of camouflage tactical uniforms, gun holsters, and flame resistant glove liners. It seems I married Rambo. Who knew?

One particular item he showed me even piqued my interest. It’s a “Life Hammer Escape Tool.” I’ve been wanting one of these for our cars. It is a small device that allows you to cut through safety belts, and break out alh002a.jpg windshield. No, not to be malicious. But in the unlikely event of a water evacuation. We live near a lot of shark and alligator infested waters. And I like to be prepared.

A couple of years ago, a family in this area lost their 6 year old daughter because she was sitting in a booster seat, and was playing around with her safety belt wrapping it around her neck. It locked. By the time her father noticed this and pulled over, he found he could not get her out of it. And she died. In the blink of an eye.

Now that both of my girls are in booster seats, and are relegated to the cheap seats in the back of the van, I’ve been wanting a tool such as this to keep in my glove box. So, I’m placing an order to BrigadeQM.com. This tool runs about $15.00, and I believe you can also find them in auto supply stores.

And while I’m at it, I’ve got my eye on a case of fully prepared meal rations. I can feed my family 12 meals for the low low price of $6.25 a meal. There’s also some really cute little combat boots that would go great with my blue jean skirt.

Wow, I’m the first, that never happens! You crack me up you know that. Great advice and you know unless you plan on shooting anything anytime soon maybe hold off on the combat boots until there is a sale :)

I totally agree it is a great tool and well worth the purchase. Highly recommend.

I think however I will refrain from “oohhhing and aaahhhing” like that of your husband – (at least in public).

There are many items worthy of purchase – it’s just that the Bank Manager has a serious heart condition – so I must refrain from further impulse buying of great items like your hubby enjoys too.

A great “journal” – as always – thanks for sharing.

Okay, I love that it is MADE IN THE NETHERLANDS. I wonder though if that means ordering it out of the US that I will have to pay International Shipping charges to get it delivered back here.
I think it’s a great tip actually, and next time I own a car I would like to have one in my glove box too.

Now, about those combat boots….

Very sad about the little girl.

Being retired AF here (DH not me) we have seen our share of such weaponry. Course he still works as a contracted person to the military. I would love to send some BDU’s and such to ya! Too bad he just can not part with them yet.
